International Collaboration for Rebuilding Ukraine Highlighted at Lugano Business Forum

Wednesday 17th of May 2023

On May 11-12, in the Swiss city of Lugano, the first "Lugano Business Forum" concluded, featuring participation from the Sumy National Agrarian University. The event, organized by the Ukrainian-Swiss Business Association, unfolded across seven panels, each discussing pressing issues related to Ukraine's recovery.

The forum also showcased the "CAS Rebuild Ukraine" project, implemented by the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) in collaboration with Sumy NAU. This advanced training program targets Ukrainians with the "S" protection status and those already living in Switzerland who are interested in contributing to Ukraine's rebuilding efforts. Participants have the opportunity to assess, co-develop, and manage projects focused on the reconstruction of buildings and infrastructure.

During the event, Olena Melnyk, head of the grant sector of Sumy NAU's research department, presented the prospects for cooperation between SNAU and BFH. This included participation in the Ukrainian-British project "Assessment of Land and Ecosystems in Northeast Ukraine Damaged by the Russian Invasion."

Ute Selling, director of the Institute of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food Sciences at the Bern University of Applied Sciences, highlighted the long history of collaboration between BFH and SNAU. She also announced a joint Ukrainian-British-Swiss workshop scheduled for May 23-24 in Bern, which will bring together scientists and specialists in soil restoration from the three countries.
