IWM Supports GreenUkraine in Documenting and Restoring War-Damaged Lands
The war in Ukraine has left its mark not only among its people but also upon its land. Huge areas of rich farmland—once a mainstay of the nation’s economy—have fallen victim to shell craters, contamination, and destruction. Yet, amidst the devastation, a ray of hope is emerging.
The GreenUkraine.ch initiative has received support from the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) through its Documenting Ukraine program. This backing empowers GreenUkraine to document the war’s devastating impact on Ukrainian soils and share essential methods for their recovery.
GreenUkraine’s efforts now serve as a lifeline for small and medium-scale farmers who depend on these lands. With IWM's assistance, the initiative is mapping damages, collecting local testimonies, and promoting soil restoration using natural treatments, sustainable farming techniques, and education. Through these efforts, GreenUkraine enables communities to reclaim their fields—and their futures.
This mission goes beyond agriculture; it symbolizes resilience. Every restored acre represents a step toward healing Ukraine’s economy, ensuring its food security, and safeguarding its environment for generations to come.
